Traders in Anambra State have urged Governor Willy Obiano to commence work on the proposed state owned West Africa Integrated Trade Centre project located at Ogbunike community in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, which is already in the state government’s pipeline.
They expressed optimism that once the project kicked off, the access roads leading to the centre and to the on-going multi-million naira ultra-modern aluminium market project still under construction in the area would be rehabilitated by the state government to provide motorable roads to both the centre and the market.
The traders, comprising of dealers in aluminum and allied products, as well as technicians emphasised the need for the government to commence the construction of Ogbunike/Oze/3-3 road to hasten economic activities in the market which is nearing completion, and to pave the way for the commencement of the trade centre.
Speaking during their recent prayer session, the contractor handling the new market project and Managing Director, Ponnovic Investment Ltd, Chief Victor Anigbata, revealed that the road was of immense importance not only to traders of the new site, but to indigenes of neighbouring communities and the state in general.
Anigbata, who expressed concern, that the proposed state owned West Africa Integrated Trade Centre project which the state government was yet to commence work on, is also sited in the area, however, pleaded with the state government to, as a matter of urgency, award the construction of the said road to stop the threat of erosion in the area.
He disclosed that the first phase of the building would be completed in 2017, based on the pace of work at the market site.
Earlier, chairman of Aluminum and allied products dealers and technicians association, Mr Ifeanyichukwu Okeke, who spoke through the association Secretary, Honourable Basil Ejidike Udeaja, during their recent prayer session, said since the traders were able to embark on the market project through individual efforts, it was incumbent on the state government to provide the area with motorable roads to enable the market bubble with business activities, when completed.
