Anambra: IPOB Sit-At-Home order has come to stay in South East ― Residents

A resident of Awka, Anambra State capital, Mr Ignatius Ikechukwu, on Monday, said that the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has come to stay in the South East.

The sit-at-home order was declared by IPOB in demand for the federal government to release their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from detention.

Speaking further Mr Ikechukwu, said residents across the five eastern states of Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi, would continue to observe the day until the government rose up to its responsibility of providing adequate security in all the streets and roads to boost people confidentiality.

“It is not that people don’t know that, IPOB, has suspended the Sit-At-Home order but the fear of what happened the first day (August 9th, 2021), the order started, where some people were innocently killed across the region, trying to obey the government warning, not to obey the order of IPOB without any action from the government.

“If you go to Aba, Onitsha and Nnewi, the commercial cities of the region now, you would see that hoodlums under the guise of IPOB members are parading the streets freely, threatening residents who try to come out for one business or the other without any single security personnel.

“The government is only making noise on radio and television without enforcing what they announced. I think the government should order the deployment of security personnel across roads and streets to build people morals to go out.

“This action is seriously affecting the economy of the region and also discouraging people from other zones to relocate to the South-East,” Ikechukwu added.

He advised IPOB leadership to hire the services of town carriers, market leaders and church leaders to help to announce the suspension to the hearing of those that do not read newspapers or listen to radio including Radio Biafra.

A trader at Upper-Iweka, Onitsha, Mrs Blessed Ikwo, who trades on clothing (Ok), poured her anger on the government for not providing security on the streets and roads every Monday, to boost people’s confidence to go out for their daily activities without fears.

“With the I don’t care attitude of the government on the development, the IPOB order has come to stay with us,” she summited.

Tribune Online gathered that markets in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka, the state capital were still empty as only a few traders had come to the market to trade.

It was also gathered that roads and streets were deserted, while banks shops were under lock and key across Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha to prevent hoodlums attacks.
