Anambra guber: Group alerts INEC on ploys to disqualify Uba

A Coalition of Civil Society Group, has called the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to an alleged ploy by some politicians to defame Senator Andy Uba so as to deprive him the opportunity of contesting the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

The group, also lamented what it described as the current drift to negative political devices in an attempt to win elections.

While addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, President of the group, Etuk Bassey expressed worries that if the menace of defamation for political gains is not checked, “the polity will witness intolerance and it may snowball into violence.”

“Today it is regrettable to observe that some political opponents have resorted to spreading of falsehood against Senator Andy Uba just to score a political point. The mischief; blackmail, defamation of character and spread of unsubstantiated claims orchestrated by those who feel threatened by the senator’s outstanding political achievement have not been able to dissuade his followers.

To this end, the group urged the INEC to disregard the falsehoods and unsubstantiated claims of certificate forgery against the Senator saying: “they are not based on facts or the true state of affairs.”
