THE rancor between the various Akwa Ibom cultural groups in Abuja was finally resolved last weekend, following a joint meeting between the state’s traditional rulers domiciled in Abuja and members of the Council of Chiefs.
The meeting, which was held at the Bayelsa State House, Abuja, resolved the feud that lasted for over 18 years among the traditional rulers in the FCT and environs.
According to a press release made available to the Nigerian Tribune by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Obong Ibereden Akwa-Ibom in Oyo State, Ediden Etim Bassey, the new structure put in place by Bishop Maurice Usen, has His Royal Highness, Itoro John Udoh, whose coronation was done by the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council in Uyo in 2018, as the chairman of the Council of Chiefs, while the vice-chairman is Obong Dan Udo Essien (Akuku Annang) and Crown Prince Edet Antai Ekerendu was installed as the secretary of the council.
Speaking during the meeting, the new chairman, HRH John Udo, thanked all the state’s traditional rulers, youth leaders and other administrative leaders of Akwa-Ibom in Abuja and environs for working towards bringing the feud to an end.
He said: “While appreciating those who have made this reconciliation a reality, I want to plead for a healthy relationship between the Council of Chiefs and the Akwa Ibom State Community in the FCT.
“We should continue to work together, as we have a brighter future ahead of us,” HRH Udo said.
Akwa Ibom chiefs and traditional rulers from Nasarawa, Oyo and other states in the North attended the parley.
