A student of the Federal College of Education, Akure, Babatunde Afeez Akinteye, has emerged as the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Akinteye, who is the immediate past Vice-President, External Affairs of the student body scored a total of 280 votes to defeat other contestants.
In his acceptance speech, Akinteye promised to lead an inclusive and responsive student parliament and work assiduously to ensure that the rights of Nigerian students are adequately protected wherever they may be learning.
He said: “With immense humility and gratitude, I stand before you today as the newly elected Senate President of our dear and noble association, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
“This moment is one that I have patiently waited for, it is not about the title; it signifies a collective commitment to forging a path of progress and empowerment for the Nigerian student community.
“It has been months of rigorous electioneering and intense politicking, I stand before you today with a heart brimming with gratitude and humility as I accept the coveted position of NANS Senate President.
“Your resounding support and trust in my vision have laid the foundation for what I believe will be transformative and impactful administration.
“To this end, permit me to explore this latitude of space to extend my deepest appreciation to every individual who stood by me, campaigned with passion, and cast their votes in favor of the ideals we collectively believe in.
“Your commitment to this democratic process is the lifeblood of our association, and it reflects the vibrant spirit of a united student community.
“To my fellow contestants, thank you for engaging in a spirited and principled campaign. Your ideas and perspectives enriched the discourse, contributing to the robust democratic tradition that defines NANS.
“Now, as we move forward, I invite each one of you to join hands in the spirit of unity for the betterment of our association.”
