The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has elected Mr. Ahmad Mukoshy, along with two other members, as new Executive Directors on May 28, 2025, during its executive board election.
Founded on March 23, 2005, as a not-for-profit, non-governmental, self-regulatory organization, NiRA was established to manage Nigeria’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD), .ng, following a directive from the President of Nigeria. It was created to oversee the administration and promotion of the .ng domain space in the public interest.
Prior to this election, Ahmad, the founder of GigaLayer, served on NiRA’s technical committee, where he supported the association’s welfare and actively participated in ecosystem policy discussions through seminars, training sessions, and instruction at the NiRA Academy. These and other contributions, such as strengthening registrar operations, positioned him to earn a seat on the board as an elected member.
Having run a domain registration business for over a decade, Ahmad believes that to have a robust ecosystem that works efficiently, it needs to be shaped by those who build it and have served to understand the problems faced by the sector and perhaps experience the course of growth. It is on this mantra that he remains part of discussions, whether through social responsibility or partaking in solution-driven programs that further accelerate the sector’s development.
His journey has been hands-on, managing DNS, expanding access to digital services, and building many products, making available tools for entrepreneurs to thrive in Nigeria and beyond. When asked why he was running to be an executive member, Ahmad wished to expand NiRA from its regulatory affairs into a national advocacy body that drives innovation and pursues policies for digital development. He believes that on this path, NiRA could set unimaginable standards in Nigeria and around the sector.
Many of his other agendas include having .NG adopted by at least 85% of Nigerian businesses and personalities, where the identity is solidified and becomes a national symbol across the world. As Ahmad Mukoshy takes on this honorary role, he will be bringing his years of experience as a software developer, proficiency in administration as founder and CEO, and his resounding academic background to the mantle of the NiRA board.
Ahmad Mukoshy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, a Master’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Lagos, and is currently pursuing an MBA, further strengthening his global leadership and business management expertise.
