Aggrieved para footballers from Imo State who has been in camp in preparation for 1st National Para Sports Game- Abuja 2022, Saturday stormed the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri protesting their denial to represent the state at the competition.
The protesters who turned out in their large numbers, marched to the stadium threatening to set it ablaze in order to serve as a punishment to the authorities for denying them the opportunity to represent the state.
The protesters mainly the deaf and dumb in the course of their protest displayed their anger on their abandonment by the authorities of Sports in Imo.
They said they were decieved to be asked to embark on training only to be abandoned by the authorities.
Tribune Online gathered that the protesting group were later given N10,000 each to pacify them.
When contacted, the Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Imo State, Mr. Dan Ogu denied being aware of any protest at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri this morning.
He said he was at the stadium when the last batch of Imo contingent left Owerri to Abuja.
He said that the para footballers made up of the deaf and dumb were actually mobilized for the competition but along the lines some of them were dropped.
Ogu said that in the course of the dropping, they were by his authority given N10,000 each to calm them down.
