Again, 17 die in another boat mishap in Sokoto

At least 17 people including boys and girls have died in another boat mishap in Dandeji village in Shagari local government area of Sokoto state.
The Council Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Dantani, confirmed to our correspondent that the incident occurred on early Tuesday morning.
Dantani said corpses were evacuated by local divers and buried according to Islamic right by 2 30 p.m.
He explained that about 40 girls and boys were on their way to fetch firewood at a nearby bush and the boat capsized.
He said 17 passengers at present confirmed death during the incident, some escaped and local divers were still searching for more reported missing persons.
A resident of the area, Mamman Ibrahim, said the incident was reported by a canoe owner adding that 17 corpses had already been recovered and local divers were still searching for the other victims.
It will recalled that similar incident occured on April 13, 2022 at Gidan Magana village where 29 persons mostly teenagers drawn and died, follow the one in 2021 in the same local government.
