Former Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd)
Raising from a one-day stakeholders meeting, the Murtala Nyako bloc of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that it will work assiduously to win the governorship seat come 2023 elections.
The bloc at a crucial meeting held in Yola over the weekend, the stakeholders and party members agreed unanimously to go back to their wards in the 21 local government areas to mobilize ahead of the party’s congresses.
The Nyako’s bloc which broke away from the party (APC) to join forces with the Africa Democratic Party (ADC) out of protest against alleged injustice meted to them during congresses in 2019 has since rejoined the party after reconciliation.
In his address at the meeting, Sen Abdulaziz Nyako said that “as far as they are concerned the terms of conditions on fairness and equality given to the party hierarchy both at the national and state levels still stands”.
He noted that “the party must allow internal democracy which is the guiding principle that would lead to a decisive and comprehensive victory of their preferred candidates considering their numerical strength in the state”.
He however advised that the stakeholders should have confidence and faith in the party and that they follow laid down procedures in addressing the party’s democratic issues right from the wards, local government up to state levels.
Senator Nyako also expressed optimism that “the calibre of personalities of the party that consulted them as a group before rejoining the party will not disappoint them urging their teeming supporters to remain steadfast in working for the success of the party.”
“I have absolute respect and confidence in Professor Mamman Tahir, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Mai Mala Buni who played major roles in our return to the party. One key demand we made is that justice, fair play and rule of law must be upheld and they all agree,” he added.
“I have taken time to interrogate the speculation of likely imposition but I found out that the claim is a mere rumour,” Nyako maintained.
Former Chairman of the ADC in the state, Alhaji Yahaya Hammanjulde and a leader in the party, Alhaji Umaru Mijinyawa Kugama in their separate presentations said the speculation that there are plans to impose candidates on them at the forthcoming party’s proposed congresses is not true at all.
They reminded the stakeholders and supporters that impunity and injustice were what made the APC lost the 2019 governorship election in Adamawa state assuring that such mistakes will not be allowed again.
They charged their teeming followers to inform their people of the resolutions of this stakeholders meeting across nooks and crannies of the state to present the true picture on the matter.
