Abia State Government says it has released N3.2 billion for the payment of teachers, parastatals’ salary arrears, subventions and pensioners in the state.

The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Eze Chikamnayo, disclosed this in Umuahia, adding that Abia Health Management Board got N828 million for salary arrears, Secondary School teachers – N983 million, 12 months arrears for Abia State College of Education Technical Arochukwu, 4 months subvention for Abia State Polytechnic Aba, N520 million for Abia pensioners, 2 months subvention to Abia State University Teaching Hospital Aba, 3 months subvention to Abia State University and College of Health Technology got 5 months subvention, in addition to N200 million grant to facilitate relocation to its permanent site.

The payments, he said started on Thursday last week and advised the various parastatals to always ensure strict compliance and pay the workers accordingly.

He further advised the parastatals to fulfil their mandate on the creation and not to bite more than they can chew.
