The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahiaukwu Ward II in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, on Saturday suspended the State Secretary of the party, Chief Chidi Avajah, alongside one other member, for alleged violation of the party’s constitution.
Following a meeting held at Okaiuga Civic Hall, Okwu Olokoro, and presided over by the Acting Ward Chairman, Nwabueze Ndumele, the party also announced the suspension of Onyekwere Chibuike Sylvester for alleged impersonation. A seven-member disciplinary committee was subsequently constituted to investigate the allegations levelled against both individuals.
The ward accused Chief Avajah of hijacking the party by unilaterally appointing an acting ward chairman following the death of the former chairman—an action allegedly in disregard of congress-elected party officials, contrary to provisions of the APC constitution.

Chief Avajah was suspended for alleged violation of Article 21, Section A, Sub-sections ii, vi, and vii of the party’s constitution. His failure to pay monthly dues to the party was also cited, in violation of Article 9, Section 9.2, Sub-section ii.
Onyekwere Chibuike Sylvester was suspended for alleged impersonation of the Ahiaukwu Ward II Chairman, an act said to contravene Article 21, Section A, Sub-section iv of the party constitution.
“Consequently, the party resolved to set up a seven-man disciplinary committee to investigate the allegations against Chief Chidi Avajah and Sylvester Onyekwere,” the ward executive stated, adding that efforts would be intensified to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
“The party shall enthrone discipline and adhere strictly to the provisions of our revered party constitution,” they affirmed.
Some stakeholders who spoke with journalists after the meeting expressed their support for the decisions taken by the ward executives, describing them as necessary steps to restore order and credibility within the party.
