Abductors of lovers who were billed to officially wed this weekend in Ekiti State have released the would-be couple after spending five days in their den.
Tribune Online observed that the would-be couple were said to have been kidnapped along Ilasa- Ayebode road in Ekiti East council area last Sunday.
The lovers, according to sources were returning from Ado-Ekiti, the state capital where they had gone to purchase some commodities in preparation for their wedding scheduled for this weekend when they were accosted by gunmen.
They were said to have been ferried to an unknown destination before the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded N5 million ransom on Sunday night.
It was gathered that the victims were released at a bush in Ayetoro-Ekiti, in the Ido-Osi local government area of the state after payment of about N3 million ransom.
The wedding ceremony slated for the weekend, according to close sources, had been shifted.
A source who spoke with Tribune Online said, ” They have been released after paying money close to N3 million just a day to the wedding. But at the moment I can tell you that the ceremony has been postponed, it won’t hold Saturday again.
“The couple are only thanking God for safe return now not thinking about any ceremony.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the release of the lovers which he said was made possible through the combined efforts of the security agents in the state.
“Yes. They have been released. The release came after efforts from the police, the military Amotekun, local hunters. They were released around Ayetoro-Ekiti on Thursday evening,” the PPRO said.
