The disclosure was made by the state Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, at the official flagging off of the exercise held at the State Specialists Hospital, Bauchi, on Tuesday.
The governor who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Barr Ibrahim Muhammad Kasim said that the gesture was to help the less privileged and vulnerable people in the society who have cataract problem but could not afford to pay for surgery.
He, therefore, commended the Muslim World League for their support, assuring that his administration remains resolute to bring succour to its people especially the less privileged and vulnerable groups
In a remark, Dr Murtala Muhammad Umar, Ophthalmologist Consultant with Muslim World League, a Saudi Arabia based organisation described cataracts as disease that leads people to become blind, hence the need to always consult experts with a view to overcome it.
Dr Murtala Muhammad Umar added that Bauchi State is one of the three benefitting states in the north after Gombe and Jigawa, assured to work with the state government in order to bring more intervention from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in his address, the Chief Medical Director, Special hospital Bauchi, Dr Ya’u Hameed, called on people who are suffering from cataracts to come out en mass in order to benefit from the gesture.
