As part of efforts to support the state government in improving education in Sokoto, no fewer than 200 youths have received ICT training from Greenmedia Digital Academy in Sokoto State in the last two years.
The Executive Director of Life Legacy Training School, Prince Babatunde Omolehin, stated this on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of the 4th batch of the training school, with another 35 students graduated.
He said the free ICT training school, which began in 2022 was initiated as part of his efforts to contribute to the education development of youths in Sokoto State.
“Over these years, the Academy has partnered with various non-profit and corporate organizations to train youths, including young girls and persons with disabilities on various ICT tools across Sokoto state.
“For instance, in 2022, the Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN), a social digital inclusion organization to implement its Life Legacy Program.
“So far, we have trained no fewer than 200 youths on ICT tools such as; Website Design, graphic design, multimedia tools, data analysis, and digital marketing.
“We are pleased to share with you the 10 weeks of impactful and social reorientation ICT training in Sokoto State tagged: Life Legacy Program (SokotoLIFE 2024),” he said.
While giving insight into the admission process, the executive director said, “During the training period, we called for an application via Google form, and we shared it through various social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp for any youths to come forward
“A big thank you to Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) and all volunteer facilitators who supported us in our efforts to help achieve the objectives of the ongoing 10-week training on three specialisations: digital marketing, website development and graphic design.
“We believe this program’s theme is a shared objective with your aspiration and vision. We are aware of your contributions to its success.”
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, Female Education Board in Sokoto State, Professor Mustapha Namaka Tukur, has assured of the state government’s readiness to partner with the institute in the training of 5,000 youths in the state.
Mustapha, while speaking in his goodwill message said the board has secured the approval of the state governor to organise the ICT training for girls in the state.
He said the details is contained in the 2025 budget currently before the state house of assembly while assuring that the selection of participants will be based on merit.
He commended Greenmedia for organising a free ICT class for youths in the state while calling on the graduating students to make judicious use of the opportunity given to them with the training.
Also speaking, representative of the permanent secretary, Ministry of Digital economy, Mallam Imran, said the ministry will look for ways to partner with Greenmedia Institute in the training of youths in ICT.
He charged the graduating students to continue in search for more knowledge especially in the area of ICT in order to be relevant in the emerging society.
Other speakers include the Special Assistant to the National Chairman of Pthe eoples Democratic Party, Mallam Yusuf Dingyadi, A member of Nigeria Guild Of Editors, Mallam Kabir Asada and the immediate past chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists in Sokoto, Hajia Rakiya Muhammad among others.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of awards and certificates to the students with Mubashir Muhammad emerging as the overall best student of the class.
