1,627 Corps members deployed to Bauchi as govt promises capacity building

A total of 1,627 Corps Members have been deployed to Bauchi State for the 2019 NYSC Batch “C” Stream 1 for the mandatory one-year service course.

While speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Corps members on Thursday, State governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said that the state government will strengthen the capacity of the scheme in order to deliver on its mandate of fostering National Cohesion and Integration.

To this end, the governor announced the contract for the provision of additional Infrastructures notably, 5000 capacity Multipurpose hall and an administrative block at the Wailo Permanent Orientation Camp.

The governor who was represented by the Head of Civil Service, Ahmex Ma’aji disclosed that the resolve of his administration towards creating Post-Service opportunities to ensure effective participation of youths in the socio-economic and political advancement of the state informed the decision.

Bala Mohammed enjoined the Corps members to ensure that they key into the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme to enable them to become self-reliant.

The governor while assuring them of their safety, security and welfare, tasked the Corps members to render selfless service to their host communities.

In his remarks, the Chairman NYSC Governing Board in the state, Alhaji Adamu Manu Soro, said the resolve of the state government to renovate and upgrade facilities in the Camp is to ensure conducive atmosphere for training and other engagements.

Manu Soro, who is the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, observed that the NYSC scheme since inception has proven to be a major unifying factor amongst the youth from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

The State NYSC Coordinator,  Alhaji Shehu Bashir had earlier explained that the orientation course is the bedrock of the NYSC programmes designed to equip them adequately to handle the challenges of the service year.
