The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, marked his 100 days in office over the weekend by distributing rice palliatives to 15,000 constituents in the Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
The rice was distributed across 13 wards of Zaria Federal Constituency, which comprises 584 polling units.
The Speaker’s gesture, under Phase 1 of his palliative measures, aims to mitigate the current hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
Phase 2 of the programme will see another 15,000 constituents benefit, making a total of 30,000 people who will benefit from this palliative measure.
The beneficiaries represent various political parties, including the APC, PDP, NNPP, and others.
They also include religious leaders, traditional rulers, people with disabilities, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The distribution exercise was conducted peacefully, and beneficiaries expressed their happiness and gratitude for the Speaker’s effort to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal in the area.
Speaker Abbas was overwhelmingly elected by 353 out of 359 members present on June 13, 2023.
The distribution of the palliatives was supervised by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker (Administration), Engineer Jamil Ahmad Muhammad.
The beneficiaries, full of appreciation for the gesture, prayed for the speaker’s success during his tenure.
