Glo unveils 2442 short code for “Do not disturb” Service

Grandmasters of data, Globacom, has unveiled a short code that enables its subscribers to reject unsolicited text messages and calls on its network.

Tagged ‘ Do not disturb’ service, the code makes it possible for subscribers to choose messages or calls they wish to entertain or block.

Globacom explained in a press statement released recently in Lagos that the “Do not disturb” self-service platform for subscribers also empowers customers to manage all automatic promotional messages received on their lines with the option of either opting in or out.

According to the company, subscribers wishing to use  the service  are to text ‘help’ to a short code ‘2442’ to receive a list of fields from which they want to receive or block unsolicited network messages.

To receive information on banking, insurance and financial products for instance, subscribers can send 1 to 2442, while they are required to send 2 to 2442 to receive information on real estate.

Likewise, information relating to education can be accessed by sending three to the short code, 2442 while subscribers interested in receiving health related information are to send four to 2442.

For information on consumer goods, the number  5 should be sent to the same code for and 6 for information on communications, broadcasting, entertainment and information technology.

In order to receive updates on tourism and leisure, customers will be required to send 7 to the short code, while customers  interested in reading about sports should send 8 to the same short code 2442.

Information on religious matters can be received by sending 9 to the same short code.

Globacom enthused that the package will contribute to its bid to enrich subscribers’ telecommunication experience on the network.

It will be recalled that the telecommunications  industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), recently directed operators to avail customers sufficient instructions and clarifications that will enable them to make informed choices about   subscribing    to  particular services or otherwise.

Customers can also   opt out of any of the services  by sending “STOP” to the same short code 2442.
