The Zamfara State Government has donated an 18-seater bus to the children’s parliament in the state.
Governor Bello Matawalle announced the donation on Thursday during the inauguration ceremony of the 5th Children’s Parliament in the state which held at the government house, Gusau.
Matawalle expressed confidence with the conduct of the children and pledged that his administration was ever ready to provide all necessary support that would help the children learn more about being parliamentarians.
He advised that the children should immediately set up committees and commence activities as soon as possible.
“My administration is committed to ensuring that the Zamfara children’s parliament becomes more vibrant amongst their counterparts.

“l am announcing the donation of an 18-seater bus for the children to enable them to conduct oversight functions and tours of their various constituencies.
“I will also provide a befitting Children’s Legislative Chamber at the Ministry of Women Affairs for them to conduct plenaries in an enabling environment,’’ the governor said.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Gummi, commended Save the Children International and officials handling REACH project for their relentless effort and support in ensuring that the state has a vibrant children’s parliament.
Earlier, the Save the Children official in charge of the project, Hajiya Fatima Musa, said the measure is in line with the growing need to address issues affecting children in the state ranging from health, education, child poverty and reintegration of children affected by conflict into the society.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Summayya Aminu was elected as Speaker of the Parliament (Tsafe Constituency); Haidar Nasir, the Deputy Speaker; Sa’adatu Muhammad, Majority Leader; and Nura Usman as Chief Whip, among other principal officers of the parliament.
The Speaker said that the inauguration of the parliament has opened a new quest in their page to promote good governance, child development, participation and survival in the state.
“As representatives of children, we are aware that Zamfara state Government is investing heavily on children’s wellbeing.
“More efforts need to be done especially in the area of girl child education, health and a child-friendly budget,’’ she said.
NAN further reports that the mock sitting was conducted at the event by the parliament where all members took their oath of allegiance and oath of office.
