Zamfara, COVID-19

The Five-man Disciplinary Committee on anti-party activities set up by the national working committee of the All Progressives Congress has received a formal report of alleged anti-party activities against the immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Abdul Aziz Yari and the Deputy National Chairman (North), Lawal Shuaibu.

According to findings, the Zamfara State Executive Committee of the party submitted the report on Monday to the Committee led by former Ekiti State governor and deputy national chairman, south, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Bakyasuwa, led other officials of the party to the APC National Secretariat to submit the report which both accused former governor, Abdul Aziz Yari and Senator Shuaibu of breaching Article 21(a) 2014 of the APC Constitution (as amended).

Article 21(a) of the APC 2014 Constitution, (as amended) reads in part: “Subject to the provisions of this article and the right to a fair hearing, the party shall have the power to discipline party members. The power shall be exercised by the respective Executive Committee of the party at all levels.

“Offences against the party shall include the following: A breach of any provisions of this Constitution, anti-party activities or any conduct, which is likely to embarrass or have adverse effect on the party or bring the party into hatred, contempt, ridicule or disrepute and disobedience or negligence in carrying out lawful directives of the party.”

The factional APC chairman in Zamfara State, Alhaji Surjo Garba, who signed the report claimed the two men were responsible for the electoral misfortunes the party suffered in the state in the recent general elections.

He said the party leadership was determined to move against the affected party chieftains.

He said: “We are going to prove we are not just bragging – that we mean it. We have drawn the battle line with Yari’s group.

“We have realised that the two men were behind the misfortunes of the party. We need to expel them to prepare for challenges ahead.”

The letter submitted to the Otunba Adebayo committee read in part: “By this letter and for the above reason, we the executive council of the APC in Zamfara have firmly resolved to expel Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Yari and the Deputy National Chairman (North), Lawal Shuaibu, from Zamfara State.

“The attitude and the conduct of the personality (sic) have brought APC in Zamfara State to a state of disrepute and a clear flagrant disobedient to party.”
