Youths and dangers of drug abuse

Drug abuse is now one of the major aspects destroying Nigerian youth who have been lured into taking sedatives without doctor’s prescription. The victims of drug abuse wrongly think that getting high will help them to fight depression.

Since the assumption of General Mohammed Buba Marwa as the NDLEA chairman, it had been exposed how Nigerians have become addicted to drug misuse. This is because it is now rare not to hear stories about arrest of drug dealers at our airports.

We have to remind ourselves that misuse of such substances would not take away sad situations that we get into. Otherwise, our dreams of becoming self-reliant as well as having a bright future cannot be actualised with this unwelcome development that is full of shortsightedness. We have to think and act reasonably in everything.

The recent disorderliness in our country could be attributed to drug abuse because a great percentage of perpetrators who had been brought to book are victims of drug abuse. Their masters brainwash them and furnish them with illicit drugs before sending them on evil errands.

We should remember that they have children who they cannot send on such errands because they don’t want to ruin their future.

I therefore urge patriotic Nigerians to fully support the NDLEA chairman and his team in the fight against drug abuse and ruthless dealers in illicit drugs in order to prevent ourselves from being ruined.
