A 24-year-old trader, Baba Suleiman, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing cables valued at N3million.
Suleiman, who resides at Railway Line area of Agege, a Lagos suburb, facing a charge of stealing.
The accused, according to the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Mathew Akhaluode committed the offence on March 6 at 5.00 p. m. at Yasnas Engineering Company, Pen Cinema, Agege.
“The accused was caught while stealing the cables worth N3million by some security guards on duty.
“The guards handed him over to the Police for further questioning,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 406 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a three-year imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y. R. Pinheniro granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until April 9.
