The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday officially declared interest to contest the gubernatorial election in the state for a second term.
The governor disclosed his intention at the banquet hall of the Government House, in Lokoja during the inauguration of the Kogi State House of Assembly Commission.
According to him, he decided to contest the governorship election again to consolidate on the achievements his administration had recorded in the last three years.
Bello said his declaration came after thorough consultations with the leadership of his party both at the national and state levels and calls from the people of Kogi State to allow him to run again.
He also pointed out that following the official release of the state’s election time table by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), it became necessary to make his intentions known.
The Governor said “I would like to inform the good people of the State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) family and supporters from the state, the local government areas down to the wards and polling units, as well as various stakeholders, opinion molders, families and friends of my interest to answer the people’s call to run for a second term in office as the Executive Governor of Kogi State.
We have made tremendous progress in the last three years and based on our achievements, the people of the state have been calling on me to run again to consolidate on our first term achievements”.
It would be recalled that Kogi state is one of the states that did not have their governorship election during the last general election in the country.
However, INEC had fixed Saturday, November 2, 2019, for the election to enable the people of the state to elect their governor.
