No fewer than 1,000 children benefited from a Christmas party organised by the Ibadan Wives and Mum (IBWNM) in Ibadan.
IBWNM gesture was outstanding as they fed the children as part of activities to celebrate the festive period.
The Founder Ibadan Wives And Mum, Mrs Opeoluwa Ike, said that the event came into existence because every child deserves to be happy and receive gifts during the Christmas celebration.
Ike said that Christmas is showing and receiving love.
According to her, she said they pick Popoyemoja area of Ibadan because they know the children need to feel and experience what Christmas is all about as every child deserves to be happy,
“I’m so glad and fulfiied that we made no fewer than 1000 children happy, many of these children have never seen Santa Claus. These are memories that will forever cherish and remember.”
In her remarks, Treasurer of the group, Mrs Ifeoluwa Ayeni, said the programme was majorly a Christmas party for the less-privileged kids.
She stated that IBWNM wants to assist women in the coming year most especially in the area of girl-child.
“We all know that in the slum areas, not all of them are opportune to experience the luxury of Christmas like we do in the city, so we are coming into the neighbourhood to bring the good time of Christmas to the kids so as for them to enjoy and go back home with various kind of gifts,” Ayeni said.
“This is just a way of giving back to the community, we are coming here to give it to people for them to have fun, majorly having fun and sharing good news of Christmas to the people in the less privileged areas.
“We estimated around 300 but the turn out now is like 1000, they really came out en masse and we distributed party packs, stationaries, food, drinks and a lot of other items.
“This is our third edition and it’s getting better every year. The first edition, we did it for kids within the city of Ibadan samething last year but today, it’s a free project. The previous one, the participants had to pay to ensure a seat but this time, it was free. The group raised funds to finance the programme.
“We would love to do it in a bigger way by having it in different parts of the state but we need support from well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations so as to bring smiles to the faces of these children.
“As a Non-Governmental Organisation, we need to maximise our potential, we don’t mind when we see support from people, giving back to the community is not a one-man project, different hands have to come together so that we can take good news of Christmas around.
“Our NGO is only about distributing foods alone but people can decide to take up a kid and finance their education up to secondary school level. It’s a bigger picture actually and we pray that we are able to achieve it.”
