A 30-year-old woman, Akinwunmi Bola, who allegedly collected phones valued at N537,900 under false pretences, was on Tuesday brought before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Bola, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of fraud.
Police Prosecutor Johnson Okunade told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in August 2017 in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade said the accused, who is a phone vendor, collected different brands of phones valued at N537,900 from the complainant, Mr Emeka Onah, to sell and remit the money to the owner.
“But the accused fraudulently converted the phones to her own and spent the money realised from the sale of the phones.”
The offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti, 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the sum of N100,000 each.
He adjourned the case until June 18 for hearing.
