Wife of Taraba gov present startup kits to 606 persons in Taraba

A foundation own by the wife of the governor of Taraba State Mrs Ann Ishaku Hope Afresh Foundation in collaboration with the National Directorate on Employment on Monday presented startup kits to Six Hundred and sixty-three women and youths in Taraba to boost self-reliance and wealth creation.

The foundation, with support from the state government and other partners, had trained the beneficiaries in various skills including tailoring, hairdressing, cosmetics, computer engineering, driving and others.

The Chairperson of the HAFT and wife of the Taraba State governor Mrs Anna Darius Ishaku said that the foundation takes skills training very seriously since entrepreneurship and job creation were twin battlefronts in the fight against poverty and hunger.

Anna Ishaku disclosed that all the trainees had gone through the three months skills acquisition program and are satisfied to be competent enough in their various fields and urged them to make good use of their startup kits to empower themselves and help to uplift others out of poverty and desperation.

“It gives me great joy that another batch of six hundred and with three women and youths in our state are taken off the streets today. I am particularly satisfied with the report of the trainers concerning each of these beneficiaries and I am optimistic that your three months training in various skills and business orientation, which was provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria would help you to achieve self-reliance and to be able to help uplift others out of poverty as well.

“The Hope Afresh Foundation pays particular attention to skills acquisition because entrepreneurship and jobs are the twin battlefronts in the fight against poverty and hunger. Here, we are committed to ensuring self-reliance, improved economic status and reducing poverty to its barest minimum for our people,” she said.

Earlier, the program manager of the HAFT Mrs Helen Douglas disclosed that the foundation had earlier trained over five thousand beneficiaries in the first batch of the program and commended the development partners who have contributed in various ways towards the success of the training and equipping of the trainees.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent expressed gratitude towards the HAFT and assured that they will deploy their skills and materials towards self-reliance and the general good of the society.

Some of the startup kits given to the beneficiaries include Ovens, computer sets, welding equipment, makeup kits, and dryers.
