Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has given reason for the various challenges currently facing the country, saying Nigeria had lost its glory to deceit and ignorance.

Iba Adams, said this on Wednesday while speaking in Lagos at the prayer to Almighty God, as part of activities slated for the 2021 edition of the Olokun Festival, insisting that the major breakthrough that eluded Nigeria was as a result of deceit by the leaders, and ignorance of the followers.

The Yoruba Generalissimo, while urging the Yoruba from the South-West and in the diaspora to embrace the culture and tradition of the race, pointed out that researches had shown that God had blessed every country of the world with different cultures, history, heritage, and tradition, adding that those were the innate gifts of nature to humanity.

Adams, said the Yoruba have the potentials to harness the rich culture and tradition, saying many of the deities and spirit in Yoruba land are immortal and have been in existence for more than 50,000 years.

“From my findings and research, it is evident that countries in Asia and European Union are economically buoyant, peaceful and orderly because they truly identify with their culture, tradition and heritage. Those countries are strong because they never abandoned their identities.

“For instance, despite the abundant human and material resources in the country, Nigeria remains a deprived nation because many of those that are supposed to salvage the situation is mostly corrupt and they could not save the situation.

“Many of our politicians today have lost their integrity because they are corrupt, unlike in the late 70s or 80s when politicians are always conscious of their integrity,” he said.

Speaking on the festival, Iba Adams disclosed that no fewer than 100,000 guests were expected at the occasion, adding that the event would also attract traditional rulers and dignitaries from the Benin Republic and other countries of the world.

“One of the spiritual advantages of this year edition of Olokun Festival is the over 100,000 dignitaries were expected at the grand finale with over 50 monarchs and Mayors from the Republic of Benin.

“We are building the economic prosperity of Lagos and Badagry all together because the event would be a major economic booster for both eco and cultural tourism.

“We also using the festival to unveil the spiritual concept of Arugba Aje Olokun which is highly spiritual in nature,” he said.

He, however, admitted that Yoruba can only get it right if the race went back to the root and embraced the culture and tradition that had, over the years made the Yoruba race the pride of other races.
