I want to know what Glaucoma is all about as well as the cause.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye, and can lead to vision loss or blindness if untreated.
Glaucoma occurs when the optic nerve, which transmits visual information from the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. This damage is often associated with high intraocular pressure (IOP), caused by a buildup of fluid called aqueous humor in the front part of the eye.
Normally, this fluid flows out through a drainage system called the trabecular meshwork, but if the drainage is blocked or impaired, pressure increases, potentially harming the optic nerve. However, glaucoma can also occur even when eye pressure is within normal ranges.

Treating glaucoma successfully is a team effort between you and your doctor. Your ophthalmologist will prescribe your glaucoma treatment. It is up to you to follow your doctor’s instructions and use your eye drops. Once you are taking medications for glaucoma, your ophthalmologist will want to see you regularly.
You can expect to visit your ophthalmologist about every 3 to 6 months. However, this can vary depending on your treatment needs. If you have any questions about your eyes or your treatment, talk to your ophthalmologist.
