There are different types of viruses each with its own different transmission routes. While Hepatitis A is spread through contaminated food or water, Hepatitis B, C, and D are mainly transmitted through contact with infected blood or body fluids. On the other hand, Hepatitis E is associated with contaminated water in developing countries. Certain medications, toxins, and autoimmune conditions can also lead to acute hepatitis.

Drug-induced hepatitis may result from the use of certain medications, including some antibiotics or antiviral drugs. Toxins such as excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to hepatitis as well.

While an acute type of Viral Hepatitis can last less than six months, the chronic type will last more than six months. Symptoms include; dark urine, light colored stools, fever and jaundice.

Very common flu like symptoms include; loss of apetite, nausea, vomiting, fever and weakness. A highly contagious liver infection, Hepatitis A is preventable by vaccine. It spreads from contaminated food or water or contact with someone who is infected. The condition clears up on its own in one or two months. Rest and adequate hydration can help.
