We’ll collaborate with security agencies to ensure credible elections ― FCT minister

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello

THE Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disclosed that it would collaborate with various security agencies and other stakeholders in the territory to improve the overall security situation in the capital city and ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible 2019 general elections.

FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello gave this assurance in Abuja during a security meeting to review the security situation ahead of 2019 polls.

He assured that security measures have been mapped out to ensure that elections in the FCT were peaceful as always, noting that the territory had always recorded peaceful elections and 2019 elections would not be different.

According to him, “as you know, this is not the first election being held in the FCT. FCT has a history of holding very peaceful elections and we don’t expect this one to be any different. We expect this one to be very peaceful and we encourage all registered voters within the FCT to come out en masse to cast their votes.”

Malam Bello then commended security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and indeed all residents of the FCT for their commitment to peaceful elections as demonstrated so far in the conduct of their affairs, expressing the hope that at the end of it all, there would be cause for celebrations.

In his remarks, the FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Bala Ciroma, assured that adequate measures have been taken to ensure security of lives and property in the territory before, during and after the general elections.

The CP assured that security presence would be heightened in all the Area Councils, including the satellite towns and other areas where cases of kidnappings have been recorded.

Present at the meeting were heads of all security agencies in the FCT, all 17 graded chiefs in the area, chairman, FCT Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Chief Imam.
