‘We will partner with Peter Obi foundation for youth skills acquisition’

The Imo State government has stated its willingness to partner with the Peter Obi Foundation to ensure adequate training of youths on skills acquisition and other empowerments programmes.

The Special Adviser/Head Political Bureau to the Governor, Enyinnaya Onuegbu said this during the flag-off of Umunwaku Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Centre at Obogwe-Umunwaku in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

Onuegbu, who represented Governor Hope Uzodimma at the event, described the centre as example of what the governor has done to empower the youth of the state on skills acquisition.

He recalled that government at the inception had set up skill acquisition centre for the purpose of training 30,000 youths in the state on skill and other digital acquisition,” he said.

While commending the founder of the centre for bringing it home for the people to benefit from, he added that the centre will provide ample opportunity for the youth to learn skills that will uplift their life in future.

Earlier, chairman of the occasion, Chief Charles Orie, represented by the coordinator of the event, Chief Goody Esom Obodo, described the day as remarkable in the life of the people of Umunwaku community.

He said that the empowerment/skill centre is the first of its kind in the entire oil bearing council area of Ohaji/Egbema which, according to him, will help in training a number of unemployed youths in the area

While assuring adequate protection, he applauded the founder and partnership of the centre with foriegn institution, African Primary Healthcare Foundation (APHF).

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of APHF, Dr. Iheanacho Emeruwa said that African Primary Healthcare Foundation is America-based charity foundation under the Internal Revenue Service-Code 501, section C, that allows to perform charity work globally.

According to him, people are expected to acquire skills in industrial welding, carpentry and furniture, tailoring and fashion academy, aluminum fabrication, plumbing, bakery and fully equipped kitchen.

Emeruwa said with the past experience on COVID-19, they decided to empower the Umunwaku community by teaching them skills that they could use to take care of themselves.
