Viral Video: Police request for drone permit lawful — Lagos PPRO

In response to a viral video capturing Lagos police officers demanding a drone permit from a civilian on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, has affirmed that the request was lawful.

According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the officers were within their legal rights to request a permit, citing Nigerian aviation laws, which mandate that permits must be obtained from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for drones weighing more than 250 grams.

However, Hundeyin emphasised that despite the legality of the request, the unprofessional conduct displayed by the officers in attempting to extort the drone operator is condemned by the Lagos State Police Command.

In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the Commanding Officer of 49 PMF Akodo, under whose squadron the officers were posted, to produce the men for appropriate disciplinary actions.
