Vehicle conveying perishable goods set ablaze in Enugu

A vehicle conveying vegetables, tomatoes, and other perishable foodstuff was on Monday morning set ablaze by yet to be identified hoodlums in Enugu, while the Sit-At-Home order was ongoing.

No person has been arrested in connection with the incident, but the attackers, witnesses said, might be enforcing the prevailing sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to demand the release of their leader, Nazi Nnamdi Kanu from SSS custody.

The incident happened at Edem Junction, Ibeagwa, Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

No live was lost in the incident.

The vehicle, loaded with perishable foodstuff, was said to be coming from the northern states through Ugwogo end of the Opi-Enugu byepass when it was blocked and set ablaze by yet-to-be-identified persons.

Eyewitnesses recalled that distress calls were sent to the State Fire Service, prompting a quick response by the Ogui Road Fire Service Station to the scene.

The PPRO, Enugu Police Command, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, while not confirming the incident, however, promised to get back to our correspondent when he was contacted for comments.

Meanwhile, military helicopters have been hovering in the area in hope of tracking the arsonists and further beef up security.
