Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, is set to produce no fewer than 113 first class graduates spanning across three years out of the total number of 12,282 graduates to be presented with different categories of certificates.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, stated this while briefing members of Journalists at the University permanent site conference hall on Tuesday.
He revealed that a total number of 12,282 graduands will receive Degrees, Diplomas, Masters as well as PhD levels during the combine convocation.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, “I am pleased to inform you that we are presenting certificates to a total of 12,282 graduands who will receive various levels of certificates.
“Of this number, 135 will receive PhD, 770 to receive Masters Degree, 96 for Postgraduate Diploma, while no fewer than 10,994 will receive first Degree and 287 will also receive Diploma certificates.
“Also, not less than 109 students will receive various prizes for their excellent performances in their respective disciplines,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that 2015/2016 session produces a total number of 260 Diploma, 4,548 undergraduates, 96 Postgraduate Diploma, 300 Masters Degree and 74 PhD, which brings the total of graduands in the year to 5,278.

In the 2016/2017 session, a total number 27 Diploma, 4,166 undergraduates, 470 Masters Degree as well as 61 PhD certificate, which brings the total for the year to 4,724.
He further disclosed that the current year under review, 2017/2018, also produced not less than 2,280 graduands at the undergraduate level.
The statement also revealed that a total number of 113 will graduate with first class certificates, 2,375 with Second class upper division, 6,603 with second class lower division, 1,556 with third class as well as 347 unclassified degree certificate.
Professor Zuru also disclosed that not less than three eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours and have contributed to the development of the school and that of the country will be honoured by the university.
According to him, “the names of the recipients are His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, Emir of Gwandu with Doctor of Laws (LLD), Alhaji Muhammad Aliko Dangote, GCON, Doctor of Science as well as Sheikh Muhammad Mujtaba Isah T/Mafara with Doctor of Letters.
He also explained that the University will honour two of its illustrious retirees who had dedicated their entire working career to the service of the school in particular and the nation at large.
He also revealed their names are Dr. Mohammed Zayyanu Abdullahi, Emir of Yauri, as the Vice-Chancellor Emeritus, as well as Ambassador Professor Tijjani Mohammed Bande, Permanent Representatives to the United Nation as Professor Emeritus.
