UI to graduate 5,863, confer honorary degrees on Dangote, others

The University of Ibadan has concluded arrangements to confer honorary doctorate degrees on three eminent Nigerians: the richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; literary icon, Professor Niyi Osundare and Chief Bode Amoo, as the university also graduates 5,863 students to mark its 60th anniversary.

This was disclosed by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka while addressing newsmen at the conference hall, University of Ibadan building, on Moday, as a prelude to the 2016 foundation anniversary and convocation lecture.

The university, according to Professor Olayinka, will also award certificates to 3,579 post graduate students in various Masters Degree classifications and 442 doctorate degree students, the highest in the history of the premier university.

The convocation ceremony for the undergraduates and postgraduates comes up on Monday, November 14, Tuesday and Wednesday November 15 and 16 respectively while 442 recipients in PhD categories hold on the 60th anniversary founder’s day of the institution, on November 17.

Olayinka further disclosed that the recipient’s of the university’s honorary degrees have contributed immensely to the cause of humanity and the institution.
