There was bedlam recently at the university town of Ekpoma, Edo State as three persons including two policemen and a commercial bus driver were crushed to death by a truck along the busy Benin-Auchi expressway.
The driver and the two policemen out of the nine who were on the road lost their lives in the ill-fated bus in the ghastly auto crash.
It was gathered that some gun welding police operatives and men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, condoned it off and took the injured policemen away for medical attention while the remains of the deceased were taken to an undisclosed morgue.
The Edo State Police spokesman, Mr Kontongs Bello, who confirmed the incident explained that the articulated truck fell on the victims when the driver lost control of the vehicle, noting that the police was yet to ascertain the number plate of y vehicle.
Kontongs, a superintendent of police denied speculations that the ill-fated policemen were either on illegal stop and search duty or going after internet fraudsters in the locality when the accident occurred.
“Yes, that is true. Nine policemen and a civilian driver were involved in the accident last Friday.
“The policemen had stopped to greet somebody when a trailer that was passing fell on them,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the deceased family members had been contacted by police authorities.
