Our world is filled with human need. These needs shall only be met as people show love and give. Love is the attribute of God, and so Godly people are well-positioned to show true love, which is best expressed in their giving. Towards this end, Apostle Paul admonished the Galatians:
Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Of course, our resources are limited. If we look at the relative paucity of what we have, we shall muster enough excuse to abstain from giving. And when we decide to give habitually, it may appear tough at the beginning. Yet God’s people must always radiate God’s love by giving to meet human need wherever they can. Interestingly, there is reward for giving; there is reward for a life filled with love. David, the sweet Psalmist, said:
Psalms 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
It is along this same line of reward or incentive motivation that our Lord spoke when he asked us to make sacrifices for the kingdom. Our Lord said at one place:
Matthew 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
At another place he said,
Mark 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
And most remarkably, he told us in Luke 6:38:
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured to you again.
These are the words of our Lord. And we know that His words are true and faithful. If so, let us be encouraged to show love to the needy. Let us be encouraged to give as unto the Lord. Let us spend and be spent for the kingdom of God, knowing that we shall be handsomely rewarded by the Lord.
Now, how should we give? If our giving is borne out of love for God, how should we do it? Here are seven ways to give:
* Give willingly. (Exo 35: 5, 29.)
* Give cheerfully. (2 Cor 9: 7)
* Give copiously. (Exo 36: 1 – 7)
* Give promptly. (Phil 4: 15)
* Give sacrificially. (2Sam 24: 24)
* Give always. (Eccl11: 6, Gal 6: 10)
* Give lovingly. (John 3: 16, 1Cor 16: 14)
Somebody said, “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” True love gives. In this season when we are celebrating the greatest Gift of God to humanity, please look around you for human need, and give in love to meet that need.
God bless you as you do so.
