Four pupils were killed by a truck driver on Wednesday afternoon in Sowo Village, along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway.
The incident sparked a protest that left motorists stranded for hours on the highway.
The victims were said to be returning home from school, which had just resumed after a week-long strike by organised labour unions in Ogun State.
The driver of the ill-fated vehicle was reported to have veered off the road and rammed into the pupils, who were said to have died on the spot.
The development triggered tension in the area, as villagers blocked the highway in protest, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill for several hours.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, describing it as “a deeply unfortunate occurrence.”
“A tragic accident occurred at Sowo Village, claiming four lives, including schoolchildren. The road was blocked as a result, and security agencies were immediately summoned to manage the tension,” Akinbiyi stated.
