Truck crushes mother, son to death in Ondo

An unidentified middle-aged woman and her seven-year-old son were crushed to death along Akure-Owo highway in Akure North local government area of Ondo state by a trailer.

The deceased was said to be riding on a motorcycle when the accident occurred around Federal Government Girls College, Akure.

According to an eyewitness, the incident happened during light rain while the trailer had slight contact with the motorcycle and the driver lost control of the bike.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo Sector Command, confirmed the incident and said the accident was between a trailer which had no registration number and a private motorcycle.

The FRSC, in a report made available to journalists and signed by one Mr L.A. Momoh, stated that the trailer, a Mercedes Benz model, was said to have made contact with the motorbike, resulting in the accident.

The FRSC attributed the cause of the accident which occurred at the Federal Government Girls College in Akure to overspeeding, which resulted in a loss of control on the part of the driver.

It also reported that the accident occurred even as showers of rain continued to make the roads wet and dangerous, requiring drivers to be careful as they ply the highways.

“While two persons, a male and a female, were confirmed dead, one person sustained injuries.”

The FRSC officers said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure morgue.

It will be recalled that a few months ago, tragedy struck at the same location when two buses collided, killing three persons and injuring several others.
