THE Nigerian Tribune newspaper, on Saturday, clinched three prestigious laurels at the Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA) ceremony held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, reaffirming the newspaper’s enduring legacy of journalistic excellence.

The trio of Assistant Editor, Segun Adebayo; Chief Correspondent, Ifedayo Ogunyemi and Chief Cartoonist, Olusegun Adeeko, were adjudged winners in different categories of the 2025 edition of the award.

While Adebayo and Ogunyemi, both of Sunday Tribune, won the Olu Aboderin Prize for Entertainment Reporter of the Year category and the Buba Marwa Prize for Defence Reporter of the Year category, respectively, Adeeko, the cartoonist of the Tribune titles, won the Nnamdi Azikiwe Prize for Cartoonist of the Year.

Adebayo’s winning report, “Treacherous Nightlife: How EFCC Raids are Pushing Club Owners, Hoteliers to the Brink”, underscored his versatility across different beats, having won the Best Investigative Reporter of the Year in 2015.

Ogunyemi’s winning entry, “Insecurity: Over 8,000 People Killed in Nigeria in 2023”, drew attention to the human cost of Nigeria’s worsening security challenges through a data-driven lens.

Adeeko’s winning entry, titled “I Took Bullet for Democracy, I Took Billion for Democracy,” was praised for its sharp political commentary and bold visual storytelling.

The Nigerian Tribune also got more recognition at the event as the title was also adjudged runner-up in the Prize for Editorial Writing of the Year category won by The Punch.

Ogunyemi was also adjudged runner-up in the Ibrahim Shekarau Prize for Education Reporter of the Year won by Oluseye Ojo of The Sun.

Olawale Akinselure, with his Nigerian Tribune report, was adjudged runner-up in the Lateef Jakande Prize for Political Reporter of the Year category.
