Three persons have reportedly been killed at the small town of Uselu-Nahor by the Benin bypass, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State as a result of a violent dispute over the collection of parking fees from trucks.
One of the victims who was simply identified as Osahon, the Chief Security Officer of the community and two others were said to have been fatally shot in the early hours of Wednesday
by unknown gunmen.
According to a source, the unidentified gunmen opened fired at the victims while they were on duty collecting parking fee at the Ahor Kara where long distance trucks normally park their vehicles over night.
The source who pleaded anonymity accused one of the youth leaders of being the primary suspect who ordered the attack as a result of a lingering leadership crisis currently rocking the small town.
Panicky residents of the community were said to have fled for their dear lives while many shopkeepers hurriedly closed business for fear of reprisal attack.
Persistent efforts to reach the Edo State Police spokesman Mr. Kongtongs Bello proved futile as his mobile phone was serially engaged but a close police source confirmed the fatal shooting.
The source said: “The assailants emerged from the bush and shot three person in the community. The police went to evaluate the victims and confirmed them dead. We have sent our men into the bush to ensure that the assailants are arrested.”
