The Alumni association of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa (FEDPOFFA) has declared that there are no bad students in the school but rather there are students exhibiting youthful exuberance which is commonplace in every tertiary institution.
National President of FEDPOFFA Alumni Association (FPOAA), Ayoade Adeyemi, made this known during a virtual press conference to herald the association’s forthcoming reunion, fundraising dinner and award ceremony on Wednesday.
Adeyemi said: “Some people have left their parents’ homes with the hope to gain admission which they didn’t get but they won’t return home. When they hang around with their friends, it’s easy to commit crimes because they have no identity in the school environment.
“Another category of people who commit these petty crimes are those who see admission as an escape from their parents’ control over their lives.”

When asked about the viral recognition of cult members by the polytechnic Students’ Union last year, Adeyemi said no such thing happened in the school, adding that the “viral report on social media was not the true picture of things.”
He further added that the association’s findings found the claim to be false in spite of the misgivings, querying that “even if you want to recognise anybody or group, will you award associations or people not known to the school?”
Adeyemi noted that the association intends to raise N100 million to see to the refurbishment of the sports facilities and equipment such as the volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis courts and football pitch of the FEDPOFFA community.
He added that the funds will also cater for the reunion and presentation of awards to recommended categories of stakeholders including association members, staff and students of the school, indigenes of Offa and Erin-lle and others.
“This is a call to build and support our alma mater especially the sports team of the Federal Polytechnic Offa towards the next Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA). This is premised on the fact that our alma mater can produce the next generation of sportsmen of global repute, hence, the appeal for your support and donation as well as anticipated connection with individuals and corporate organisations,” he said.
He listed the personalities expected at the event scheduled for Saturday, November 13, 2021, in Offa, Kwara State to include Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi; Elerin of Erin-lle, Oba Abduganiyu Ibrahim; governors of Kwara and Osun States; the polytechnic Rector, Dr Lateef Olatunji, among others.
He also noted that the polytechnic presently enjoys a cordial relationship with its host communities.
“We don’t want a repeat of the incident of 2000 and that is why we commemorate that event every May 8 with an annual lecture where we bring stakeholders to build on the unity and synergy that promotes lasting positive engagements with the communities,” Adeyemi said.
