TCN reiterates commitment to improved service delivery

THE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has promised its readiness to provide better power service delivery for residents of Ogun State and its environs.

This promise was made by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Mr Usman Mohammed, recently at the official commissioning of a new 60MVA, 132/33KVA transformer at the Ijebu -Ode substation of the company.

Mohammed said the new transformer would increase the 48MW power wheeling capacity of Ijebu-Ode substation to 96MW and reduce load shedding in the entire Ijebuland.

He added that the energisation of the transformer would help the company to separate the Epe 33KV feeder from the Ijebu Igbo 33KV feeder.

Mohammed further said that the company would building four 330KVA substations in four different locations in the state which include Ogijo, Arigbajo, Agbara and Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries areas of the state.

The TCN boss noted that the company had installed 22 transformers across the country and that it had expanded the national grid by 20 megawatts.

“In the history of Nigeria, there was no time two 330 KVA substations were built, but now TCN is building four 330 KVA substations in four different locations across the state. TCN has been able to install this kind of transformers in 22 locations in Nigeria. Presently, our engineers are working assiduously to complete a sub station on an island in Lagos State,” Mohammed said.

“In two years, we have been able to expand the national grid by 20 megawatts. We want to ensure that if generation is 7,000, transmission will be 14,000 and distribution will be 28,000. Similarly, TCN is working to ensure we complete other lines that bring power to Ogun and Lagos States.  All these undertakings are to improve power supply to this state and its environs.

“TCN is also considering dropping of 330 KVA in Ijebu Ode or reconstruction of Sagamu-Ijebu Ode power line, to increase power supply. But this will depend on the cheapest of the two”. Mohammed stated.

The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Kayode Adetona represented by the Chairman, Council of Olorituns in Ijebu -Ode, Chief Moses Olaiya, commended the company for providing the substation with a transformer to ease the challenge of epileptic power problem in the area.

He appealed to the Company to double the line carrying power from Sagamu to Ijebu-Ode substation to reduce the cost of installing another transformer.
