BARLEY four days fifteen persons were gruesomely killed in Logo local government area of Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen another four people were reported killed in serial attack on some communities in both Logo and Buruku local government areas of Benue State where four persons were reported killed.
The areas the suspected herders attacked were Mbavuur and Mbaya council wards in Logo and Buruku council areas of the state respectively where a total of four persons were killed.
It was gathered that two persons were killed in Mbavuur council ward of Logo while another two died in the renewed crisis between the herders and farmers in Mbaya council ward in Buruku local government area.
The herders were said to have overrun Mbaya council ward in Buruku local with more than 4,000 cattle grazing freely in the area.
Firmer chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Logo local government, Mr Ndiisaa Terhemen said on Thursday that ‘the invaders first stormed the Tse-Igboughul village on Tuesday about 8pm when most people had gone to bed and the herders were shooting sporadically during which two people were killed.’
“The attack spilled over to the next day (Wednesday) which led to ten persons sustained varying degree of wounds as a result of gun shot, they were rushed to hospitals in Zaki-Biam and Ugba, headquarters of the local government for treatment.”
Also In Buruku, the suspected herders were said to have attacked some communities in Mbaya council ward where two people were reported killed, this brought the total number of casualty in the two council areas to four persons.
Some communities in Buruku council area were attacked around March, 10 2017 where over twenty persons were killed.
The House of Representatives representing Buruku constituency, Rt Hon Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev, had told newsmen few weeks after the earlier attack that many dead bodies wee still buried in the sand and opined that twenty dead bodies had so far recovered .
Chairman of All Progressives Congress APC in Buruku local government, Mr Mbatseen Terngu, confirmed the killing, saying over 4,000 Fulani cattle were grazing roaming freely in the area with the herdsmen destroying their farmlands.
An aide to Hon Orker Jev, Desmond Ikyume, told newsmen that, ‘the attackers came around 8 pm on Tuesday night and surrounded the village, this was followed with sporadic shootings, most of the villagers have flee the area’.
Mr Ikyume added that one of the victims was stabbed to death on the stomach with a sword, adding that corpses of the victims were deposited at the hospital.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Moses Yamu said he was “not aware of the attack” and tasked our correspondent “to cross your facts”.
