Surrender weapons in your possession Kaduna CP tells hunters, others

THE Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, has called on hunters and others in the state to surrender all illegal weapons in their possession to avoid prosecution.

He stated this during a meeting with hunters from Pambegwa and Saminaka in Lere Local Government Areas of the State.

According to Iwar, the Inspector General of Police (IGP),  Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, recently directed all states commissioners of police to mop up all illegal arms in their state, hence, he is giving the hunters and others the opportunity to willingly hand over the illegal weapons in their possessions.

Iwar said that in view of this, the State Police Command is ready to work with hunters in area of providing security because they know the terrain very well and are even aware of the bandits and criminals terrorizing their areas.

“We are going to work together with you because we appreciate your profession as hunters. There is going to be hunters-police partnership in order to boost security in the state.

“We are going to train some of you in this regards so that you will not engage in illegal acts that is contrary to the laws of the land. Nigeria as a country is governed by laws and hunters must also follow the laws.

“We have set up a task force to mop up illegal arms such as AK-47 and others. And we call on you to cooperate with the task force to surrender such weapons at your possession.

“We appreciate your cooperation towards providing security in the state and we cannot allow you out of the struggle to restore sanity in the state; that is why we call you here today to have a heart-to-heart discussion and map out a joint way forward,” he said.

The CP who earlier visited the Television Motor Park and Sabon Tasha Garage in Chikun Local Government Area, in his campaign for community policing directed the deployment of fourteen additional police officers to the Television Motor Park and immediate establishment of Police Outpost at the Sabon Tasha garage.

He, however, said the communities have a role to play in their own security as the police cannot do it all. So he called for a synergy between the police and the communities in order to reduce the crime rate in the areas.
