As the Supreme Court prepares to rule on the Kogi State gubernatorial election, political activist Comrade Usman Okai Austin has expressed concerns that a favourable judgment for Governor Usman Ododo would reward former Governor Yahaya Bello and set a dangerous precedent for Nigerian politics.
The PDP chieftain stated that such a ruling could normalise electoral fraud and over-voting, undermining the integrity of the country’s democratic process.
He emphasised that the Supreme Court’s decision will have far-reaching implications for Kogi State and beyond.
The case involves an appeal by Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Ahmed Usman Ododo as the winner of the 2023 Kogi governorship election.
Ajaka alleged irregularities and manipulations in the Appeal Court judgment, prompting the Supreme Court case.
