Sultan mourns demise of Ohanaeze leader, Iwuanyanwu

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has mourned the passing of the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, describing the late elder statesman as a good friend of long standing who had “contributed to our works, unifying Nigerians across tribes and religions to understand ourselves.”

Sultan said this in a statement issued on Tuesday by his media office, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, as he commiserated with the family, government, and good people of Imo State over the death of the Igbo leader, noting that he, while in the military, had been friends with Iwuanyanwu since the time the late elder statesman was proprietor of Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club.

The monarch said Iwuanyanwu as a unifier would be remembered for his numerous efforts, noting that the late Chairman of Champion Newspapers “tried his best to reach out to all of us due to a series of meetings we had been having with both Ohanaeze and others for a better understanding of the situation in the country towards peaceful co-existence.”

“Our condolences go to the Iwuanyanwu family, the government, and the good people of Imo State as we pray that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the Sultan prayed.
