No fewer than one person killed in a clash between two rival cult groups in Ilesa, Osun State
on Wednesday.
The incident which happened at Irojo area of the town around 9.00 a.m of the day, reportedly saw the two rival cult groups engaged themselves in a fierce gun battle, leaving many residents and shop owners around the scene of the incident vacating their homes and shops for safety.
Investigations revealed that, despite the exchange of gun battle between them, none of them fell victims of the gun but a middle-aged innocent man identified as Olorunda, a saw miller was hit by the stray bullet of the evil perpetrators while buying cowpea for his breakfast around the place.
Speaking on the incident, an eyewitness account who identified himself as Adeaoye Adedokun said that, the deceased who worked at the sawmill in the area, went to buy cowpea for his breakfast when he was hit by a stray bullet.
In its own reaction, Osun State Police Command confirmed the killing of a young man, identified as Olorunda, in Ilesha, Osun by suspected cultists.
The command spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident in Osogbo on Wednesday, said the victim was hit by a stray bullet.
Opalola, however, said that calm has been restored in the area while a police investigation was ongoing.
According to reports, armed men suspected to be cultists, at about 9.00 a.m allegedly shot at a rival gang member at Irojo Area, Ilesa, but missed their target and ended up killing Olorunda.
