Still on Not-Too-Young-To-Run

Why do we pretend that our nation can only progress if the youths take up leadership positions and roles? Apparently, it is generally seen that reducing the age requirement is held as panacea against bad governance, greed, selfishness without properly addressing the foundation of our failure, chaos and confusion as a people.

Yes, as youths, we deserve to take our place of pride in the society, but the impression that youthfulness is all that is required to have good governance is doubtful.

One of the main problems is that our politics is highly influenced by wealth rather than merit, character or integrity. Can we have the best instead of children of the elite whose parents intend them to be recycled?

No Nigerian university is ranked among the first 1000 globally in 2018. This reiterates the fact that a lot needs to be done in getting the best from our younger generation. We need all the right political education to get our youths on track.

Also, the allegation against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, brought upon him by the Inspector General of Police paints police force in bad light. True be told, the abuse of power or privileges is commonplace in all professions. But this should be discouraged, especially with the rank and file of our security agencies and apparatuses.

Professionalism and all the allied ethics should be encouraged at all levels in our society.
