The School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) has announced the implementation of a blockchain-based certificate verification system to enhance the security, transparency and accessibility of academic credentials.
According to the School’s chief executive officer (CEO), Alero Ayida-Otobo, the innovative blockchain system is the way to go in tackling the proliferation of digital credentials and the increasing prevalence of credential fraud. She said the new advanced technology, funded by Sterling Bank, will help safeguard the value of certifications.
“Sterling Bank’s commitment to quality and positive educational experiences for people is yet again demonstrated here in their commitment to supporting the adoption of innovative technology across the educational ecosystem.
“SPPG is one of the first institutions in Nigeria to embrace blockchain for academic credential management, and we look forward to a near future where this is the norm across Nigeria. With VX Technologies, we can streamline certificate management, ensuring efficiency,” Ayida-Otobo said.
Tribune Online reports that each certificate issued by the school is securely recorded on the blockchain, creating a tamper-proof digital ledger that can be accessed and verified by authorized parties from anywhere in the world.
By leveraging blockchain technology, the school is revolutionising how academic achievements are verified providing stakeholders with a secure and immutable record of students’ accomplishments. Unlike traditional verification methods that rely on centralized databases susceptible to tampering and unauthorized access, the blockchain-based system offers a decentralized and transparent solution.
“The benefits of the blockchain-based certificate verification system extend beyond security and transparency. It also streamlines the verification process, reducing administrative burdens for academic institutions and other stakeholders.
“With instant access to verified academic credentials, the unnecessary protocols are eliminated, while students can seamlessly share their achievements with anyone or institutions without delays. In addition, adopting blockchain technology aligns with SPPG’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
“By embracing emerging technologies, the school is preparing its students for the digital future and equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world,” Ayida-Otobo added.
