BROADCASTER and actress, Mabel Oboh and her Scotland-based sister, Josephine Oboh-Macleod, have moved to help entertainers facing health challenges with the SaveourStars campaign.

“It is one of the best things that has happened to the Nigerian entertainment industry. There is nobody that will not agree with the campaign. I have pledged to give her my support, financially and otherwise. I also intend to help her raise funds from Scotland where I’m presently residing and have an art studio and in Nigeria,” Josephine, a sculptor, said of her sister’s plan to establish the SaveourStars Centre.

The campaign, according to Mabel, will benefit entertainers, who are suffering from serious ailments and lack the means to help themselves.

She listed entertainers suffering from terminal diseases including cancer, diabetes and accident victims as beneficiaries. “Producers, actors, actresses, scriptwriters, musicians make- up artists and journalists among others are part of the total package,” she added.

Mabel disclosed that she would be approaching hospitals, corporate organisations and government to solicit for support very soon. The actress added that ailing entertainers residing outside Lagos would be supported with funds, where need be.

The campaign’s main objective, Mabel added, was to save lives. “I want to stop the idea of going to the public to beg for support each time one of us takes ill. We are family. We will help ourselves and families don’t leave each other. When we start helping each other, that’s when outsiders will come to assist us,” she said.
